What I eat, when I eat it, and sometimes why I eat it.

Day 114. Einstein Marathon Meal Plan

Einstein Marathon Meal Plan

Rocktober! Bring it on … new month, new stuff to eat. Ahhhh, not really. One of the most eye-opening areas of logging each and every bite is that I don’t have a large variety of foods that I eat. I just eat a lot of times in the day, but eat the same foods.

I’ll be the first to coin it the Einstein Meal Plan. Einstein had a huge brain and a small wardrobe. Why? Because it reduced choices. That’s what having 7 white collared shirts will do. So, in regards to my marathon meal plan, looks like I have the same mentality. Less choices, less opportunities to make a bad decision. Too many bad food decisions over time equal a big waist. Not quite e=MC2, but this food equation isn’t exactly rocket science.

If you eat too much, you’ll gain weight. That simple. Excluding all the exercise variables, this statement is true as true can be. Even Einstein would approve. “I’m Einstein and I approve this message.”

Part of my normal eating is also supplementing. Thanks to Dr. Oz, I always take my Herbalife multivitamin and Herbalifeline (Omega 3). To keep me upright in this marathon, I also take Herbalife joint support, Xtra Cal (calcium), and male factor. The other Herbalife supplements I take are just general health.

When Did I Eat?

  • 8:15am (Meal 1) — Herbalife Formula 1 Protein Shake. Packed with fresh fruits and vegetables. If I can be blended, it’s in the shake.
  • 11:30am (Meal 2) — Comfort food bonanza! Homemade grill cheese with Kraft American cheese and in lieu of butter, used EVOO to help with the grilling.
  • 2pm (Meal 2.1) — Comfort food bonanza, part deux! The sequel includes 4 slices of Morning Star Veggie Bacon or like us forever vegetarians simply say, “facon.”

Meal 2.1 — 2pm

  • 4:40pm (Meal 2.1) — Pre-run nutrition. I was feeling some tightness in my right hammy. Decided to go for some ramp runs to loosen it up for tomorrow. Not sure if this is kosher or a recommended method of healing a sore hamstring, but it seemed to work for me.

Meal 2.2 — 4:40pm (Pre-run)

  • 7:30pm (Meal 3) — Chinese food. Egg drop soup, General sesame tofu, and vegetarian chow fun.

Day 113. Can a Quesadilla Help With Low Energy?

Chipotle Kind of Day

Woke up this morning knowing I had about a 6 mile run ahead, but really wasn’t feeling too bionic today. Low energy for some reason, but wondering why I have low energy won’t fix my low energy. Proceed as usual and just writing it off as “one of those days.” I’ll do my best today.

Can a Chipotle quesadilla help with low energy?

I’m sure it’s not scientific. MyFitnessPal shows all of the nutritional facts, but all I know is after eating one, I certainly feel happier. Use the eyeball test. Watch a kid eat a quesadilla. Are they frowing or smiling? So, I guess the overall answer is “Yes it Can!”

Meal 1.1 (Post Run) — 8:45am

  • 10am (Meal 1.2) — Post run celebration. Homemade grilled cheese and tablets. I had a slow pace today because of low energy. Don’t feel sick, just one of those off days. Bring on the comfort of a grilled cheese sandwich.
Grilled cheese and Herbalife supplements

Day 112. Say Cheese … Grilled Cheese (that is)

You’re never too old for grilled cheese. Repeat, never too old. I do encourage y’all to graduate from the Wonder Bread – Kraft American Cheese classic and guy some Artisan French breads and combine two of your favorite cheese slices. Mine are muenster and american.

When did I eat?

  • Meal 1 (8:15am) – Herbalife morning smoothie before I head off to church.
  • Meal 1.1 (11:50am) — Morning shake now all used up by my body, time for a Scooby snack. These Kind Bars are just crunchy enough, just salty enough, and just chocolately enough. They are more than enough. Recommended.

Meal 1.1 — 11:50am

  • Meal 2 (1:30pm) — Home from church and although it was too bad my wife couldn’t come because she wasn’t feeling well, what a happy comfort food surprise. No matter how old we get, we’re never too old for grilled cheese.

Meal 2 — 1:30pm

  • Meal 2.1 (6:10pm) — Fresh cut Farmer’s Market peach slices to tide me over until a later dinner. In the background, Breaking Bad’s season finally just started.

Day 111. What to eat before a long run?

Today’s Meals:

Today surrounded two major events. Morning 14-mile run and an evening birthday party. I needed strength to get through the run and I needed stamina to manage tonight’s party. I did great on the run, but not-so-great at the party. Still wasn’t hungry so I just had a slice of the best ever carrot cake I’ve ever had with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Note to self — ask again who made that cake.

Don’t get me wrong — I didn’t hermit it in the corner, but I just plopped in a chair and whoever sat near me would be forced to listen to me go on and on about my morning run. Oh no … I turned into one of those guys. You know the one, “Look at me guy” Turn every conversation into something I want to talk about.

Note to self — don’t be “Look at me guy”

When Did I Eat?

  • 7:20am (Meal 0) — pre-run nutrition. Come on Herbalife24 and a banana! I’m counting on you today.
run262 marathon pre run

Meal 0 (Pre-Run) — 7:20am

  • Meal 0.1 (8:10am-11am) — Clif Shots at mile 3 and mile 10 and strategic sipping of my Herbalife24 Prepare, Prolong, and Niteworks to go.
run262 marathon meal plan

Meal 0.1 (During Run)

  • 11:20am (Meal 2) — Home and not really hungry. But at the organized runs, they have Zico for the taking. When all else fails, go back to what the professionals do. In this case, I needed to rehydrate. That pasta pictured was leftover from last night and all I did was play with my food. That banana was only half eaten as well.
run262 marathon meal plan

Meal 2 (post run) – 11:20am

  • 7pm (Meal 3) — Happy Birthday Dear Crispy, Happy Birthday to you! The best carrot cake ever. Had a whip cream frosting rather than that typical sweet layer of stuff I usually scrape off anyway. Saved me the efforts of scraping and more for eating! Delicious. They had catered Mexican food, but this cake is all I was up to.

Meal 3 — 7pm

  • 8:10pm (Meal 3.1) — Left the party and didn’t want to press my luck. Not hungry, but I know not eating would be a mistake. Stopped at our favorite Chinese restaurant for a bowl of egg drop soup, rice, and oranges. Now I’m feeling better! As you can see, not a big fan of peas. Does anybody else put rice in their soups? If not, what are you waiting for!

Day 110. Spaghetti Factory.

Day 110 – Today’s Meals

Marathon Food Plan. Carbs and cheeses and chips. The 3Cs of nutrition. But, poor choice of words, however … take a peek at the food journal. Still below my daily goal and says if I continue to eat like a normal human, I will still lose a bit of L-Bs. (pounds). Oh my … I can still be human and enjoy foods without counting points, without deprivation. I can be with versus without. But (here’s that but again), I did strap on the ole’ Brooks again today and hit the pavement. How many miles and time equals to managing the 3Cs of nutrition … find out here.

Today’s Meals 09-27-2013

When did I eat:

  • 6:50am (Meal 0) – Herbalife24 Prolong, Prepare, and Niteworks plus a couple pieces of frozen banana. Why frozen banana? Because that’s all I had. I freeze banana slices for my morning smoothies and didn’t plan for ahead for a non-frozen one. But, at the fair, freeze your banana and it’s actually called a dessert now.

Meal 0 — 6:50am

  • 10:40am (meal 1.1) – Yakisoba and Justin pairing. Crispy and salty plus biter sweet and savory.

Meal 1.1 10:40am

  • 1:10pm (Meal 2) – Tastybite Madras Lentils and leftover egg fried rice. This is another Costco find from years ago. Comes in a 4-pack (I think) and also packs big flavor. Microwave in a minute and bring on the protein and big flavors.

Meal 2 — 1:10pm

  • 4:45pm (Meal 3) – Various chips and cheeses and fruit. House warming party with tons of finger foods. Had to leave quickly because I didn’t want to leave with tons of extra calories.

  • 7pm (Meal 3.1) – I like, strike that LOVE, chips and dips more than the average bear, however not for dinner. After the party, there’s always the afterparty. And tonight it was dinner for two at Spaghetti Factory. Manager’s Special with mushroom and mizithra plus my handy-dandy Herbalife tablets. I don’t think there is a fat blocker in there, but I certainly needed one tonight.

Day 109. Veggie Corndogs

run262

MyFitnessPal 09-26-2013

When did I eat:

  • 8:15am – (Meal 1) Breakfast is served. Herbalife smoothie and Herbalife Core Complex.
  • 11:20am – (Meal 2) Lunchtime. My wife discovered this while at work. A unknowing co-worker shared her Yakisoba with her. My wife since confessed and it’s all good. My next Costco trip was just for this noodle bowl. Chased my food with Herbalife supplements.

Meal 2

  • 2:20pm – (Meal 2.1) Snack time. Yes, that Yakisoba was “yucky” at all. It was “yummy”soba. Sorry about that … but I’m sure the kids will like the play on words. Chased with my favorite snack food of all time, Lay’s Original Chips.
run262 ustronger marathon nutrition

Meal 2.1

  • 5:45pm – (Meal 3) Possibly a dinner, but definitely good. Hot Dog on a Stick veggie corndog and some fries. The picture shows a lot of ketchup and mustard, but it was just for the photo op. I’ll stick with mustard on my burgers.
run262 ustronger marathon nutrition

Meal 3

  • 7:40pm – (Meal 3.1) C.R.E.A.M. – Cookies Rule Everything Around Me. Not quite Wutang, but I’m sure their lawyers will be calling soon. First visit and quite possibly my last. I’ll stick with It’s It. The cookie was hard — one bite and all the ice cream squeezed out and the cookie broke. Not the cleanest way to eat an ice cream sandwich.

Meal 3.1

  • 9pm – (Meal 4) Homemade egg fried rice to end the night.
